Sharda Sinha is a folk singer and music teacher of repute from Samastipur, Bihar. She was born on October 9, 1952. She has given respect and added a new dimension to the Bhojpuri songs. She was awarded the Padma Shri by the government of India for her contribution to music and Bhojpuri music industry in particular.
Sharda Sinha sings in different dialects including Bhojpuri, Magahi and Maithili. Padma Shri Sharda Sinha was invited to perform at the Basant Mahotsava at Prayag organized by the Prayag Sangeet Samiti. She presented numerous songs at the Mahotsava based on the Mahotsava’s theme, “Spring Season”, where the advent of spring is narrated through folk songs.
She also performed for famous dignitaries, like, when Navin Ramgoolam, the Prime Minister of Mauritius visited Bihar. She given her voice to famous songs from Bollywood blockbusters like Hum Aapke Hain Kaun, “Kahe Tose Sajna” from Maine Pyar Kiya and “Taar Bijli” from Gangs of Wasseypur – Part 2.
She has been conferred the title of “Bihar Kokila” by the state government of Bihar and also performed in the Bihar Utsav, 2010, at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi. She started the programme with her popular patriotic track “Maiya bharti pukarela jawan babua tora hathawa mein deshwa ke shaan babuwa”. She also sang her other songs like “Paniya ke jahaj se paltaniya bani ahiya piya lele ahiya ho sindurwa Bengal Ke,” “Kahe to se sajani hamaar jogiya,” “Sutal chaliya baba ke bhawanwa,” “Sun ho pardesia,” “Sasuji se lutri,” “Apna sajaniya ke” and “Dulhin dhire dhire chalio.”
